Danielle Desta was born to a Jewish family in Gondar, Ethiopia. Her family fled Ethiopia in 1984 pretending to be students. Upon their arrival in Israel, they moved to an Absorption Center and later to Jerusalem. Danielle joined the IDF and served as a liaison officer at the Office for Coordinating Palestinian Civilian Affairs. In 2004, she joined the American-Israeli organization Israel at Heart, a nonprofit committed to promoting a better understanding of Israel and its people internationally. In that capacity, she traveled the world, sharing her life story and her insights into the challenges faces by Ethiopian Israelis. In 2006, she attended the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy & Strategy at the prestigious Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, where she received her BA. During her undergraduate studies, she was highly involved in a student organization dedicated to bettering the plight of the Ethiopian immigrant community in Israel. In 2008, after graduating from the IDC, Danielle worked at Hillel at the University of California in San Diego. Upon her return to Israel, she has been working as the program coordinator for Israel at Heart. In 2012, Danielle returned to the United States and earned her Master’s degree in Business Administration at Brandies University. Upon her return, Danielle continues to represent Israel at Heart in Israel. In 2017, Danielle worked as an advisor for the Social and Economic Affairs. Currently, Danielle is launching her own start-up company in Israel.
